Your camera needs to be a DSLR with face/eye detection at a minimum. 

Yep, I know. Its crazy! 
I now take photos of my husband and I all the time - like this one you see here - without the stress of a remote, or app. We put up the tripod and prepare the camera and then just snuggle on up! Easy as pie. Let me show you how!
